Goddess Guide, Ellen, asked, in the group chat, earlier this week… “What was that practice of warm water in the morning again? And what is it for?”
For some context, at the Getaway, Health practitioner, Heather Einsohn shared the health benefits of drinking warm water with lemon first thing in the morning and many of us have tried it.
Since Ellen asked, we thought we would revisit it for all of us. We found an article in La Jolla Mom magazine that goes through, in great detail, all the many benefits of this practice. It goes into not only the benefits, but additional “recipes” for making lemon water to drink all day and even how to pick out great lemons!
The article starts with a bit about lemons:
“Lemons are healthy. Most of us associate lemons and citrus fruits with vitamin C, but that’s not all they have to offer. They’re low in sugar. According to the USDA National Nutrient Database, lemons contain everything from vitamin B6, vitamin A, vitamin E, folate, niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, and pantothenic acid to minerals like calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, and phosphorus. They even contain more potassium than apples or grapes.”
“Lemon health benefits go beyond vitamins and minerals, however. As you’ll read below, lemon juice has antibacterial and antiviral properties and can be a digestive health aid. Some people find that lemon water benefits in the morning extend to weight loss, clearer skin, and even a clearer mind.”
Some benefits:
- Heart healthy
- Good for your brain
- Clears your skin
- Good for the liver
These are just a few. Read all 13 benefits and the rest of the article to learn about everything lemon!
This week's Practice
Add Warm Lemon Water
Put lemon into some warm water and drink it as part of your morning routine. Try doing it daily, but as a minimum, do it for 3 days this week. You’ll want to do it regularly to really see what benefits you experience.
It is simple:
- Fill a cup with warm water.
- Squeeze half a lemon into the warm water.
- Add extra flavor if you like with basil, lavender, mint, grated ginger, turmeric or a bit of honey.
We know you'll feel an improvement as a result of this practice—as those of us who do it daily can attest!
